Why Are CVC Words Important?
A significant component of reading success is strong phonemic awareness skills. A CVC word is a single-syllable three-phoneme(sound)word that follows the pattern of consonant sound, vowel sound, and consonant sound. If you break a CVC word into sounds, you will hear three distinct phonemes.
Students need to be able to segment and blend sounds to read.
While blending is putting those sounds together to read the word-This is the process of reading that you are familiar with, also known as “sounding it out”; CVC words are a critical tool when introducing many phonological awareness skills young children need to learn because their simple pattern (consonant-vowel-consonant) makes it easier for children to transform individual sounds into short, simple, familiar words. Kindergarten goals are reading and writing CVC words, and these are perfect!
Keep Phonics Practice Engaging!
Learn to write CVC words are easily decodable for kindergarten students. They can say each
letter sound and blend them together to read the word. They are durable lamination cardstock,
so your child can practice writing with a dry-erase marker. These flashcards are perfect for teaching
kids to identify the missing sound in a CVC word and have fun writing CVC words to go with a picture.
Usually, CVC words are taught to kindergarten kids around 5 years of age. There are two different
levels to choose from, the colored card with vowels given and the purple card with consonants given.
If a child is still struggling with letter sounds and needs more practice—-go slow and do more letter
sound activities and CV and VC blends before moving to CVC words. The purpose is to decompose
and blend the sounds. You can use any related manipulative you can get your hands on.
Sound-It-Out!
Make CVC learning easy and fun with the Coogam CVC word game! CVC words make sense to
kindergarten readers because they are phonetic and don’t have any tricky sounds or rules. CVC words
are the first words that children learn to read, and they do this by segmenting and blending the
three phonemes that make up the CVC word, for example–mat, kit, peg, fog, and bob. As you read
these words, you’ll notice that each letter makes its phonetic sound. There are no long vowels or
tricky digraphs like sh/ch /th. That’s why CVC words are the ones your child should be reading first.
With four dry-erase markers, children can wipe it up and reuse the CVC word cards
for multiple times without having to waste papers!
Color Coded With Level: They are naturally differentiated for different ability levels. The vowels are in red, and the consonants are in blue. The colored cards are basic level with all vowels given, while the purple ones are of higher level with consonants given.
High-Quality Cardstock: The pictures are colorful, the cards are sturdy, and there is a wide variety of CVC words for practice. They are all lamination cardstocks that are splash-proof and easily wipable, which can use again and again. The pictures and words are legible, which makes them easy for early readers to use.
Perfect Educational Tool: The writing flashcards are perfectly designed for kids who have trouble with beginning reading concepts. They are a key that helps kids unlock comprehension. If you are teaching your child to read, this is a must-have educational tool that allows them to see a picture and have the letters right there so they can associate it.
